Let’s start with the name. The Youth Online Network and Group Electronic Organizer.
I’m not very good at coming up with names and I’m a personal fan of acronyms. YONGE, or Mr. Tom Yonge, is the person responsible for this project taking off; hence I named it after him. I was a student of his at Vimy Ridge Academy and the Student Council Executive was trying to find a way to communicate with each other and have a space for notes from meetings and general planning. It was suggested we should have a website at a meeting and that’s all it was, a suggestion. I had just finished creating Half-Life Creations and offered Mr. Yonge a similar system tailored to the needs of our Student Council. It would include a place for news for students to read, a calendar to list all the events going on, an image gallery and a comprehensive message board. Since the creation of this first pilot site, up to three websites have been created for High School’s to organize their Student Council/Union.
